The Protomen always put on a good show, and their recent 3-day deal in Nashville was a whole event! Due to several factors, I didn’t participate in any of the surrounding activities arranged by fans, but I did go to all three nights of concerts — and found some surprises!
Usually at these shows, I try to be close to the front and end up somehow getting near a mosh pit — if not during the main show, then definitely during one of its punk metal openers. This time, several pits happened that I was adjacent to regardless of my position in the crowd (a sold-out show at Marathon Music Works’ 1,500-capacity venue). One of them surprised me: the Cosplay Pit.
Seen above, this scene of Mega Man and Proto Man cosplayers acting out Sons of Fate opened up right beside me, lit by bystanders and anticipators. This means I was able to get a few very good shots! This went in parallel with the usual theatrics on-stage, which I couldn’t get as good shots of.
The whole 3-day affair was amazing even without having gone to the side-events. The fandom for this band is as strong as ever, and the venue was packed with people who traveled from far and wide to Nashville in order to see this special performance of all three of their major albums!
I don’t know if this sort of thing happens at any other concerts, but I did find out via their openers that there are even more theatrical bands out there, such as URIZEN. I love live music, and I love it even more when there’s a fun, even semi-interactive, performance involved! I look forward to more from this band, especially as their cryptic cypher dropped in the middle of night 3…
