The Shape of Water:
While mermaids and sirens have been around for quite some time, there is a seemingly more recent uptick in nice-looking fish men — who are markedly more on the “fish” side of things — than ever before. Needless to say, I’m a fan. Look at what’s going on IRL: we should be getting weirder with it.
Amphibians can be fish, too.
Hellboy: Abe Sapien
This was probably the first time I realized: they’re making fish hot in movies. Writing this now is also the first time I realized Doug Jones played more than one hot fish man… I’m gonna be real, I don’t remember much else about this movie. Maybe it’s time for a rewatch… 👀
Undertale: Undyne
I’m also including Undyne in this. Because she’s hot, in a very similar way. She’s the character I was most thrilled by in my original play-through of Undertale, originally presented as foreboding and deadly but rather having a boldly loyal and fiery personality.
TBH, I wanted to make a whole Undyne Appreciation Post, but consolidating my appreciation here seems to also make sense. I also took a very long time to complete this, so by now everyone should be a pretty big fan of her. You understand.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Prince Sidon
I’ve actually been a big fan of the Zora ever since I played Ocarina of Time as a child. They get cooler with every new entry in the series (I even like the proto-Zora Octoroks; they’re cute), but this? This is peak. Thank you, Mr. Aonuma.
