Shantae WIP

I discovered the Shantae games this year. I had been told about them in the past, but I sort of overlooked them in the midst of my comically oversized gaming backlog. I picked up the original Game Boy game on the Nintendo 3DS eShop this summer, and it’s wonderful! I can’t believe I didn’t know about it back in the day. There aren’t many women or people of color as main characters in video games, after all. And the animation in that game is just nice.

The Shantae games look delightful, and I love her design, so I wanted to draw her. (I was also inspired by the new Shantae Kickstarter, which I backed earlier this year. They had an art contest, too, but I didn’t start in time to make the deadline.) I haven’t had time to finish it yet, but I will — I have a great idea for the background.
