Cicadapocalypse Now: 2024

When I was at the Nashville Water Lantern Festival, I also got to experience, for the first time since childhood, the booming burst of cicada emergence! And man, was it loud — you could even hear it in the city, which was startling for me. I’m just north enough now that they actually haven’t shown up at my home at all, so it was fun to go out there and watch them fumble onto my picnic blanket all day.

I once again forgot to bring my actual camera to the event, but at this point I think my phone’s camera might be better (if not for a lack of f-stop control). Here’re the good cicada photos I got:

Those little guys were really dropping in all over the place. Funny to think that they had just been waiting to emerge for all this time, though it wasn’t quite as chaotic as my childhood memories.
